Since I was a little girl, my family has attended the Macy’s Flower Show in downtown Minneapolis. You walk off the elevator onto the 8th floor, take a deep breath, and it’s spring! Five flower shows opened in Macy’s stores across the country on Sunday – Minneapolis, Chicago, Philadelphia, New York and San Francisco. Designed annually by Bachmans, the Minneapolis show is always a spectacular display of blooms that we won’t see in our yards for months yet.

I wish I could’ve captured the smell for you. Lush, perfumey, gorgeous – like a spring stroll of the best kind!

I don’t know about you, but scenes like this will never be seen in my yard. =)

I had the opportunity to attend a preview of the show on Friday and it’s simply lovely. The theme is ‘Secret Gardens’, and they’ve created spaces to represent gardens around the world.  A French rose garden, a Japanese bamboo garden, a sea of tulips in a Holland garden, and so on. Each flower type is marked, so if you’re a real gardener you’ll be inspired (and if you’re not a real gardener, the signs also include a little Minnesota symbol to tell us if they’ll grow here).

This is unfiltered. The blooms are really this technicolor.

The lighting is pretty harshly bright on this stunning centerpiece, so she’s a little glowy. BUT so incredible, right?!

Admission is FREE. Bring the family for a fancy day out at Macy’s! You can eat at the Skyroom up on 12th floor (this is where we always eat. It’s a cafeteria-style restaurant, casual, with great city views) after taking in the show. But beware – weekends are busy busy. Pushing a stroller around the show on a Saturday will be nearly impossible, and the line to get in will go down whole floors of the department store. Seriously. It’s only open now until April 6th, so take advantage of a quiet evening and get a glimpse of spring!

**I was not compensated for this post. I was able to attend the flower show early, but all opinions are my own.**
